Meet Goliath
My name is Goliath. I'm a Great Pyrenees. I'm a big dog. It's my job to protect the herd and to protect
your right to know. Big John agreed to use my name and personality to represent the station. Good thing... I can get a bit cranky when I don't get my own
way.
According to the American Kennel Club, I was bred to be a big, guard dog.
My brothers and sisters have been used since 3000 BC by shepherds in the Pyrenees Mountains in Southwestern Europe.
Traditionally a peasant's dog, my family found favor in the royal court of Louis XIV and as elegant guardian of many grand French chateaux. Renowned for
our ancient instincts and ability to determine friend from foe, we are still prized as guardians.
My ancestors came to America in 1931.
Today we are found around the world as companion, guardian, therapy,
and show dogs. I was homeless when Big John adopted me from the Florida Great Pyrenees
Club, which finds good homes for many of my relations
and supports adoption and care of all breeds. If you would like to know about them,
visit their web site at
www.floridapyrs.org.
The human members are all volunteers so it may take a day or so to get back to you,
but they will be delighted to hear from you.
Lot's of dogs and cats
need good homes. I was looking for a good home and Big John needed at least one good friend.
He's crazy and a pain in the a$$ but I love Sweetie.
You want to find out about my skills as a guard dog,
just come around the Big House on the Hill.
Hope to meet you some day, just remember, approach
slowly...smile...and having a treat in your hand might help you survive
the encounter...or at least keep most of your fingers.
